Until reading Mr. Schwartz's book, "My Samsung Galaxy S5," I had been intimidated to purchase and use a smartphone, because it seemed like a whole new concept to learn, which I didn't want to do. I was content using my regular cell phone, even though I realized that most people had, and benefited from using, a smartphone. My brother then told me about a promotion offered by Samsung, at their Galaxy Stores (one is located near me) where you can try any one of their devices for 21 days. I proceeded to select the S5 phone to borrow. However, I didn't want to learn about the phone just by "playing around" with it, by watching YouTube videos, or by asking others how to use the device. So, I looked at different books and read a sample portion of Steve Schwartz's book online, which included the Table of Contents, the Introduction, and part of Chapter 1.From the Table of Contents alone, I could see how very detailed and logically presented the book was going to be. The Introduction, I felt, set the tone for the entire book, including Mr. Schwartz's fine approach to writing and teaching, which I like. In reading part of the first chapter (in the online sample), it was clear how much I would benefit from reading Mr. Schwartz's book. I purchased the book in late July, and I recently finished reading it (including the additional material available from the publisher's (Que) website). Not only was I learning so much about smartphones in general, and the S5 in particular, but I really enjoyed and looked forward to picking up the book each day, to continue my reading. It is written not only very informatively, but in a friendly and consistent style.The layout of the book is excellent. The numbered step-by-step instructions and fully correlated screen shots are presented very well, along with the additional pieces of information that are placed as side bars within the steps. The book's format is detailed and precise in its instructions, and it is written clearly and in a well organized and thought-out manner. It's evident that Mr. Schwartz doesn't want his readers to miss a step in instructing them what to do, throughout the many areas covered in the book. I also enjoyed reading the narrative that was interspersed throughout the book, which made it even more instructional to its readers. Amidst all of the book's detail and technical content, I still found it to be an "enjoyable read" because of Mr. Schwartz's writing style and the manner in which the information is presented.As an additional note, I found that highlighting the material as I read it was a great benefit to me. I think it served to help the information register better for me. I also believe it gets the reader more engaged in the book if he/she highlights the material (and chooses what information to highlight and not to highlight). In addition, I think it benefits the reader later on, when he/she refers back to the material. Mr. Schwartz may want to encourage his readers to highlight as they read. I just feel it allows to reader to be much more attentive to, and engaged in, the material as it's presented in the book.I also want to highly commend the editors of the book. It was clear to me that both Mr. Schwartz and the book's editorial staff paid close attention to every detail of the book's contents, including the step-by-step instructions, the screenshots, and the logical flow of the book, from start to finish. I'm sure this is not an easy task to do for any book of a technical nature.As a result of reading Mr. Schwartz's book, I'm not only more confident in using a smartphone, and it's myriad features, but I also believe I will be more aware of, and less intimidated by, some of the more technical aspects of the phone. For someone who had never used a smartphone before, I feel that Mr. Schwartz, through his wonderful book, has brought me more up to date with the current technology, and its benefits, and for that, I'm very grateful.I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to reading other future books by Mr. Schwartz as part of Que's "My" series.
I love this product. I am a new user to smart phones, and realized immediately that the phone was a lot smarter than I was. I tried a hard cover version of this book, and realized the content is very valuable. I also realized that the size and weight of the book did not lend itself well to reading it in bed. I purchased this Kindle version and really appreciate the ability to have the Kindle version opened to the particular section that I need information and guidance on. With the smart phone right beside it, I can walk myself through the steps, using the Kindle as an ongoing checklist and accomplish what I need to do to accomplish what I am trying to do. The ability to rapidly move from section to section without the challenge of pawing through pages of an actual book is great. If you don't have a Kindle, then the hardcover is OK, with excellent photos to guide you as noted above. My only challenge now is to be able to remember all of the complexities of the magic of the Samsung Galaxy S 5. With the Kindle helping me, I am making great progress.
Android is new for me and according to the Internet my phone is similar to a Galaxy S5 so I invested in this to help me through a few of the basics of Samsung Smartphone use. It has been extremely helpful with some of the basic and some of the other nuances of this technology. The book has wonderful illustrations--screen shots; it explains how to access them and what their purpose is. I've used touch screen on both Mac products and Windows 10 so this helps tweak my knowledge with Android and the strong use of Google apps.The author writes in a very understandable language. It is a worthwhile investment.

I'm enjoying my new phone much more thanks to Mr. Steve Schwartz's excellent reference manual. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish -- this book is worth MANY times the purchase price. Very highly recommended.
This book is like an encyclopedia for your new phone. It is heavy, lengthy, detailed and has excellent graphics. There have only been a few things which I could not quickly figure out with the help of this book (still trying to arrange the plethora of icon widgets on the pages the way I want) but that may be in part due to my inexperience. If you are new to smartphones or Android, this book will help you significantly get up to speed. A great reference to help you enjoy this powerful phone -- thanks for writing it.
This book is very thorough. For every step of a procedure, there is an excellent photo, easily viewed on my Kindle Fire. I bought both this book and the Missing Manual, and I very much preferred this book to the "Missing Manual" for the Samsung S5 because of the clarity of explanations and the better quality photos.
I looked at two books and this one won because of the color pages. Color males all the difference. I would highly recommend this book. The examples help you find what you are looking for in your phone.
As most know you cannot get a guide anylonger with your cell phone. You more or less have to wing it. This book is really excellent if you want to know how to do everything on your Samsung5 phone. Great book and well written. Glad I purchased this book.
