Great starter book on the concept. High level selection of topics, conversational presentation, and most importantly a fast read. This is an excellent strategy because it covers all the essentials, while still leaving you enough time to dig into some application or play with a build as you go along (which is ultimately the point). Leaves you free time to explore the topic and truly digest it, without assuming prior experience. Well done!
This book is well written and it is an easy introduction to the concepts introduced.I would recommend it if you are just trying to have a better sense of the principles of Random Forest algorithm. You are not going to become an expert in the subject just by reading it.
Best $3.00 I spent that day. The author tells you exactly how Random Forests work and when and when not to use them. The explainations are in plain English and you don't have to be a data scientist to understand. It is fairly short, I'm not sure how many pages, but it gives you everything you need to know about Random Forest and Decision Tree models. Highly recommended.
This is one of the best intro books available on any topic. It does not hand-wave you into formulae with integrations of infinite series. There isn't one sentence that sounds like it was translated from Russian to Chinese and then to English by a German speaker. No sir.It says things like, "you draw a line through the box so the left side has mostly apples and the right side has mostly bananas." My kid could read this.It explains, and shows, to the novice, what the topic is all about. I get it. I can't do the math, but I get it.
Scott has an impressive ability to clarify concepts that are too-often presented as complicated. The idea behind a random forest implementation of machine learning is not something the intelligent layperson cannot readily understand - if presented without the miasma of academia shrouding it.This book takes a novel, highly logical, and memorable approach; and I liked it enough to purchase extra copies for some of my students of AI machine leaning. The golden triad of IT is often summarized as good, fast, and cheap. Scott excels on all three fronts: the book is understandable without oversimplification; it is short enough to read in about an hour; and the price is certainly affordable. I'm happy to rate this as a five star choice.
For anyone completely new to the idea of random forests, I would highly recommend this book. It goes into sufficient mathematical detail about the different facets of the algorithm without getting lost in those details. I feel this was a wonderful introduction to random forests for me.
Great book for a beginner. I am a beginner in machine learning/Data science(never studied particular topic before) but have studied math and done some programming for my field of studies. Nevertheless, I believe that for every beginner its not important to crunch numbers from the very first day but to build a solid foundation on the basics and build a lot of intuition about the things that are happening inside the blackbox and why one is seeing the results that they are seeing.This book helps with the things that i have mentioned in the above paragraph and I believe that this was the intention of the author as well.I love tech books that keep me craving for more and don't bore the living hell out of me.highly recommended for beginners as well as data scientists who feel that their foundation is a little shaky on this particular topic. one may need to read topics such as "what is machine learning" before jumping into decision trees.
The author handles the subject clearly, with excellent examples and objective text. I would recommend this book to everyone wanting a good introduction to the subject.
