This book is amazing. The story is wonderfully woven into a riveting tale of highland love. This book is a keeper, to be read again and again.  Cecelia Mecca is a kick arse author. I love this series. When a new book comes out it is like revisiting old friends that you haven't seen for a while. For those out there who have not yet read a Mecca book, you cannot go wrong.   Cecelia Mecca has again written an amazing story that will pull you in with her wonderful prose and vivid descriptions.  The scenes are painted vividly, making you feel you're there. It's an emotional, romantic book that captured and held me from start to finish.  This story is emotional and devours you as you read it, tearing yourself from the book is not an option.

Isle of Skye Scotland 1273. Can two enemies overcome their feelings of hatred to come together? A man driven, William, Lord of Camburg who went by Court, was determined to reach his goal of the top of the mountain. He only knew he was being drawn. Finding the stone he was making he way back home. But Lady Marion had the same goal. She had been deemed keeper of the stone so she caught up with Court and demanded he return the stone. This was a wonderful story by Cecelia Mecca that continued a secondary character from one of the first books in her Border Series. Two people fated to be together with different goals for the power of the stone. But were they really ? The interaction between Court and Marion was heartwarming and the story had a couple of surprises that kept me turning the pages! This story was part of The Ladies of the Stone: A Scottish Romance Anthology. Which if you haven't read you should!!
The Protector's Promise is a wonderfully written story that takes place in the 13th century along the borderlands of Scotland and England. This story follows a knight who is being lead to a place he’s never been and to a treasure he knows nothing about, except he knows he has to take possession of it. As Scotland’s new protector of the stone answers her call to take possession of the Stone of Scotland, she finds a slight problem...the stone has already been taken! This was a great read. I love the lively and strong minded characters who’s interest lay on opposite sides of the border and each of their need to possess the stone. Their unlikely romance between enemies ignites into a passion that burns the candles from both ends! My favorite! I definitely recommend this book and I look forward to the next! Happy Reading!
Court is the loyal knight just trying to do what his king wants. Marion is the protector of a magical stone that Court finds and takes. She now has to go after Court and try and get the stone back. This was a great story of two people who are set to accomplish their goal but the attraction they have for one another keeps getting in the way. I loved how protective Court was to Marion and how their connection continued to grow. The obstacles they had to overcome added to the story and the ending was great.The Border Series is a set of stories you will love and one your do not want to miss. They have all the adventure, mystery and of course romance your want in a book.
The Protector's Promise by Cecelia Mecca is book 6.5 in the Border series. This is the story of Marion Rosehaugh and William 'Court' Thornhurst. This book can be a standalone book if you wish to do so.Marion is the new Scotland's protector of the stone but she arrives to find that it has been taken by William. Marion mission now is to get the stone back from William. William feels drawn to the stone and thinks it will help him in battle that can change his life. Can Marion get the stone back...or will they find that there is something more going on between them.Really enjoyed this story and have loved this series!
William 'Court' Thornhurst was orphaned at such an early age that he could never understand his visions, had no one to ask and never felt appreciated for his accomplishments. Lady Marion of Ormonde was raised just the opposite. Raised and doted on by loving parents and made to feel special and accomplished through no efforts of her own. When a stone and a legend draw them together to protect the peace at the border they are drawn to more than a stone and create quite a legend of their own!
This book was slightly different from Cecelia Mecca's other Border novels. The characters are new and there is a fantasy element not in her other books. As always, her characters are likable/relatable (which is my favorite thing about her books), there is passion, there are border politics and emotional struggles, and of course always a happy ending. Looking forward to the next book she writes.
I found this novel to be a fast read, do to the . . . can put it down feeling . I so often fines myself wondering toward the Scottish/ English romance novels aisles. Cecilia Mecca fills my need every time with creative storytelling.
I have enjoyed the characters completely in this series. Not sure which h/heroine I've liked more. This story line didn't seem as well connected through. But look forward to completing.
